A SNAPSHOT OF LOCAL TOURISM
VSBM shares its monthly report.
2019 ANNUAL REPORT

It's no secret that coronavirus has inflicted a large impact on the tourism sector. Our destination hasn't escaped the fallout.

But there are positives. Although fewer in total numbers, visitors to our website are staying on the site longer and viewing more pages. Most events are rescheduling rather than canceling outright. We see this as a preview of travel's eventual rebound.

Take a closer look at these numbers in our monthly report. It's available for download as a PDF at the button below.

We'd also like to add a programming note: Industry Partner newsletters will now arrive twice a month. We'll be in touch the second and final Wednesday of each month.

REOPENING AROUND THE STATE

Gov. Eric Holcomb's reopening plan, "Back on Track Indiana," last week took another step forward. Stage 3 started May 22 and continues until at least June 14. What's open? Here's a quick look:

  • Restaurants at 50% capacity.
  • Gyms with restrictions.
  • Movie theaters at 50% capacity.
  • Retail stores at 75% capacity.

We took a deeper dive into Stage 3 and laid out the details, including what remains closed, in a content piece called Reopening in The Bend: What Does it Mean?

Check it out by clicking the button below.

STUDENTS TO RETURN THIS FALL

Although reopening comes with uncertainty, the future is beginning to take shape. Notably, colleges and universities in The Bend have announced plans to safely bring students back to campus in the fall.

Notre Dame begins classes Aug. 10 with no fall break. Same for Saint Mary's College and Holy Cross College. Bethel University also plans to resume in-person classes in August. IU South Bend will begin its fall semester Aug. 24, also with no fall break.

Read more about Notre Dame's position on reopening in a New York Times op-ed penned by Fr. John Jenkins, president of the University.
